Bit of Pilates History.....

 

Pilates, originally named 'Contrology' was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920's. As an Athlete and Physical trainer he developed a group of specific exercises to work on muscular strength, endurance, improve balance, posture and flexibility. 

​

Today Pilates is taught worldwide in the form of Mat or Reformer machines. Many Physiotherapist, Osteopaths and General Practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise because of its low impact controlled movements. As a society we spend a lot of time on our mobile phones and sitting at a desk for hours at time, leading to crippling lower back pain and poor posture.

Pilates practice helps to correct postural imbalances, improve daily mental and physical stress - healing from the inside out.

​

Over the last few years Pilates has become a trendy form of exercise drawing in many former Yoga/HITT class enthusiasts. This is a positive direction, however the clinical benefits of Pilates and the life altering affects it can have on an individuals physical capabilities cannot be measured as a passing trend, but as a chance of a better quality of life!
